A simple pair of snowshoes can launch you into a Colorado winter wonderland with thickets of snow-laden trees, silent white meadows and trails running parallel to frozen creeks.
Generally, it’s good to have the following items on your snowshoe checklist, keeping in mind that dressing in layers is the best way to stay comfortable in changing weather conditions:
❄️ Base layer: wool socks, thermal underwear (tops and bottoms)
❄️ Middle layer: long-sleeved shirt or fleece jacket
❄️ Outer layer: Waterproof jacket, gloves, snow pants and hiking shoes or boots; wool hat, snowshoes
❄️ Other items: Polarized sunglasses or goggles; a hydration pack; ski or trekking poles; gaiters, daypack with extra socks, sunscreen, first-aid kit, camera, snacks

Head into Vail this month for the 17th Annual Vail Winterfest! 25,000 pounds of ice was brought in to transform the Gore Creek Promenade in Vail Village into an exhibition of ice and light. Illumination begins daily at dusk until 10pm. The ice sculptures can be enjoyed until the ice melts (typically around the end of January) ✨
